The Spring 2024 edition of the Social Issues Bulletin is available

The Affinity Social Issues Team publish a Bulletin three times a year, dedicated to informing the church on pressing social, ethical, and legal issues pertinent to Christians. Each issue is free to download.

The latest edition of Affinity’s Social Issues Bulletin delves into the intersection of faith and societal dynamics, spotlighting pertinent challenges faced by Christians across the UK. This issue unpacks themes such as ageism, the ethical implications of using AI technology, and the legal landscape surrounding abortion within the UK.

The first article by Alex Drew, Lead Officer at Faith In Later Life, emphasises the negative impact of ageism and the importance of challenging ageist attitudes by offering advice for the church. Jeremy Peckham concludes his insightful series on AI by pondering the ethical considerations of adopting available AI technologies, including reflections on applications like ChatGPT. Dr Susan Marriott, representing the Christian Medical Fellowship, provides a comprehensive update on prevailing abortion legislation, shedding light on concerns surrounding initiatives such as the ‘pills by post’ scheme and relevant amendments within the Criminal Justice Bill. Dr Marriott encourages prayer and advocacy to protect the lives of unborn children and the well-being of women. The Bulletin concludes with news on legal cases involving Christians plus two book reviews by Christian Concern’s Tim Dieppe on Colonialism and Christianity and the New Eugenics.

We’re grateful for the contributions to this excellent Issue of The Bulletin and believe you will find it insightful and practical.
