The Summer 2024 edition of the Social Issues Bulletin is available

Is the tide turning on transgenderism?

This edition of our Social Issues Bulletin focuses on the issue of transgenderism, with articles exploring significant topics such as the societal and medical approach to transgenderism in light of the Cass Review, the implications of the Conversion Therapy Bill for religious freedoms, and signs of a potential Christian awakening in the UK.

It also features the latest developments in bio-ethical issues from a Christian perspective, an analysis of significant individual cases that highlight the personal dimensions of these debates and a review of ‘Challenging Leaders’, a book examining the qualities and challenges of leadership today.

James Mildred’s thought-provoking piece questions whether we are at a turning point in the societal and medical approach to transgenderism. He examines the Cass Review’s revelations about the practices of the past decade, pondering if this marks a broader cultural shift or just a fleeting moment in the ongoing debate.

Lizzie Harewood and Dr Carys Molesy delve into the Cass Review, a landmark report challenging the status quo of gender dysphoria treatment. They discuss the report’s implications for Christians, advocating for a response that melds truth, compassion, and ethical medical practices.

James Kennedy from the Christian Institute updates us on the Conversion Therapy Bill, particularly its inclusion of ‘trans-identities’. He critically examines the bill’s potential impacts, raising important questions about religious freedoms.

In an engaging opinion piece, local pastor, Regan King explores the potential signs of a Christian awakening in the UK. Regan reflects on recent events and trends, contemplating whether these indicate a revival of faith and a return to biblical principles in public life.

Dr Calum MacKella provides an update on the latest developments in bio-ethical issues, covering advancements in medical technology and the moral debates surrounding new treatments. He offers a clear and insightful Christian perspective on these critical topics.

We also bring you the latest news on significant individual cases the Christian Legal Centre are involved in, highlighting the personal dimensions of societal debates and reminding us of the human faces behind these issues.

Finally, our book review section features an independent anonymous review of ‘Challenging Leaders’, a book aimed at those who want to understand and address abuses of power within Christian contexts.

We’re grateful for the contributions to this excellent Issue of The Bulletin and believe you will find it insightful and practical.
