Formation Group to Develop TGC-UK

Affinity’s Advisory Council, composed of church and ministry leaders, recently gathered for a time of rich fellowship, engaging in learning, discussions, and prayer. A significant outcome of this meeting was the fruitful discussion and decision to support the formation of The Gospel Coalition in the UK and Ireland (TGC-UK).

Additionally, James Robson from Oak Hill gave an insightful presentation on the current state of leadership and pastoral ministry training. Simon Calvert from The Christian Institute spoke on the principles of government, outlining some of the challenges posed by the new Labour government and advising ordinary Christians on how to engage with politicians effectively.

We were also joined by Affinity members from across the United Kingdom for our AGM, where we reported on various activities, including the Foundations Journal, Social Issues Bulletin, and the Affinity Talks Gospel Podcast. Further discussions on TGC-UK were also held.

Commenting on TGC-UK, Graham Nicholls, Director of Affinity, said:

‘We want to preserve the long-term and precious unity in diversity that we have built within Affinity, as well as the good work for the gospel and the goodwill shared with our partners, members, and supporters. At the same time, we believe there is value in moving forward to seek the formation of The Gospel Coalition, covering the UK and Ireland, united around TGC’s gospel confessional statements and sharing resources and experiences from TGC globally. Affinity aims to be a constructive participant in this process, supporting it as something complementary to Affinity as it exists today.

‘We will therefore gather a founding group to seek God’s guidance, listen to each other on what would best bless UK and Irish churches, and engage in deeper dialogue with TGC leadership. Our humble prayer and desire is that this may, in some small way, support the gospel mission of the church in the UK, to make and teach disciples for the glory of Christ.’

We welcome anyone interested in being part of the founding group for TGC-UK or those who would like to support this new initiative. Please contact us at office@affinity.org.uk for more information and to discuss how you can get involved.
