Faith in Later Life are also promoting a campaign to encourage us to lonely elderly people at this very difficult time.
As we know, the last 8 months has been a difficult and devastating time for so many older people in the UK. We have seen increased loneliness and isolation due to shielding and social distancing, and the coronavirus pandemic has impacted on both the physical health and emotional well-being of many older people.
Faith in Later Life we want to encourage churches, Christian organisations and individuals to think about how to practically reach out to older friends and neighbours, and elderly people in local care homes who may have no family or friends in the community. This is particularly important with this Christmas looking very different from the last one.
Could you pick up the phone and share the free Daily Hope telephone number with an older person? You can find more information here.
They have lots of free resources on their website that have plenty of ideas about reaching out to older people, and this year they have also produced a selection of Christmas postcards which you could send to an older person, so they know someone is thinking of them. Do visit their website if you would like more information.
