Cross-Cultural Worker vacancy at Harper Church, Glasgow

The church (who are members of FIEC) are currently advertising for a cross-cultural worker.

They write:

10% of the UK’s asylum seekers are initially housed within 1 mile of our building. This has given us a huge strategic opportunity to connect with people from all over the world. The church now has 25 nationalities represented with around 50% of the congregation having been born outside the UK. We have large groups of Iranians and Latin Americans and smaller groups of Afghans, Pakistanis, Iraqis and numerous people from a range of African nations. We are seeking to build a ‘multinational Scottish church’.

We hope to appoint a Cross Cultural Worker who will be involved in engaging with asylum seekers and refugees in our area; running a range of Bible study courses; engaging in 1-2-1 outreach and discipleship. This post is about biblical engagement rather than practical support. A team is already in place to provide practical support.

This is a full-time post on a 2 year contract (potential of a third year dependent on funding). We would be open to a part-time role with a suitable bi-vocational worker. The post is being funded thanks to a grant from the FIEC Mission Fund.

Required Skills

We are looking for someone who:

1. Affirms the FIEC Statement of Faith and Ethos Statements
2. Has solid Bible handling skills and is likely to have some training
3. Has some experience of cross-cultural ministry and mission

Our major groups are Iranians (circa 70 people) and Latin Americans (circa 30 people). It would be desirable for you to have some knowledge/experience in either one of these people groups. Language skill in either of these areas would be a major bonus.
